We are very proud that Delivered’s Emma Shawcross completed the London Marathon in 5 hours 34 mins last weekend, raising an impressive £750 for the charity Mencap’s work with people with learning disability. Emma, who is a valued member of our Woodley-based pallet and haulage team, chose the charity for reasons very close to her heart. “Mencap is such an important organisation to me because they have provided so much support for my sister. Hannah has Down’s Syndrome and without Mencap’s support and range of activities she would not be as independent as she is now. They have also really helped with advice for my family on what services are available for Hannah to help her get the most out of life from day 1.” Running a Marathon is a huge undertaking and, although Emma is a regular runner for general fitness, she didn’t start training seriously until a couple of years ago. “I set myself the target of Reading half marathon in 2013 and London 2015. It gave me something to work towards.” As well as her marathon training, Emma has also recently qualified as a Class 1 HGV driver meaning she can now drive articulated trucks – another great achievement!
